Pleural Procedures

Dr. Sneha Tirpude – Consultant Pulmonologist

Pleural procedures are diagnostic tests used to evaluate and treat conditions affecting the pleural cavity, which is the space between the lungs and chest wall. These procedures involve accessing the pleural cavity through a needle or tube and removing fluid or tissue for examination. The most common pleural procedures include thoracentesis also called as aspiration of pleural fluid or tapping of pleural fluid, pleural biopsy, and pleurodesis, insertion of drain in pleural cavity.

Pleural procedure is used to diagnose conditions such as cancer, tuberculosis, sarcoidosis, other infections, inflammatory diseases, and other types of cancer.

Pleural procedures are generally safe and well-tolerated. However, there are some risks associated with these procedures, including bleeding, infection, air leak and damage to surrounding organs. Before undergoing a pleural procedure, patients should discuss the potential risks and benefits with their doctor.

If you are experiencing symptoms such as shortness of breath, chest pain, or coughing, speak to your doctor about whether a pleural procedure may be right for you.

When choosing a lung biopsy doctor in Pune, it is important to find a provider who has experience performing the procedure. Look for a doctor who specializes in pulmonology. We also  offer the biopsy procedure to determine the condition.
